The Global Women Women in Leadership BreakThrough Leaders' Programme

The Global Women Women in Leadership programme will focus on senior women from large public, private and non-profit organisations on the verge of "breaking through" to very senior executive and governance roles. It will provide high-calibre networks, high-level mentoring, and targeted professional and personal learning to significantly increase the number of participant women progressing to senior positions one to three years after programme completion.

How the Programme will be delivered

The main emphasis of the BreakThrough Leaders' programme will be on experiential learning through:

1. Access to and networking with New Zealand Global Women members

2. Workshops on specific professional development and leadership skills

3. Customised mentoring and coaching

4. Access to Boards and directors for observation and shadowing opportunities

5. Networking dinners with Global Women members.

Programme Fee

The fee for the 12 month programme is NZ $ 25,000 plus GST.

The fee covers:

  • An induction half day for the participants plus an evening cocktail function and introduction to the course for the participants with their partners and managers
  • 12 months of courses that build on each other.

This covers a range of topics, building personal/interpersonal and general skills development. Courses vary                                in length from 0.5 day to 2 day workshops.

  • 10 Executive Coaching sessions.

These can be spread out over the 12 months to suit the participant.

  • 6 mentoring sessions with a member of Global Women or another senior female business leader.
Timing and frequency is up to the member and participant
  • 2 networking dinners with the members of Global Women network
  • A final two day retreat, culminating in a final celebratory dinner with members of the Global Women Network

 We will be:

  • Giving participants working documents and practical experiences that they can use as ongoing resources
  • Throughout the year, challenging and enabling participants to commit to making whatever changes they see as necessary to achieve their intended position
  • Offering customised mentoring and executive coaching as crucial components in that process which will ensure the programme is responsive to the individual needs and aspirations of participants.

The thinking behind the programme

  • Our approach is based on extensive research on women in leadership and the insights of over 25 senior New Zealand business women. The programme has been developed with the following in mind:
  • Course content will awaken self awareness and innate leadership based on models that challenge some of the current theories of leadership
  • Participants will be provided with practical skills required around the Board table
  • Content will provide relevant and experiential learning

The programme will strive to strike a balance through developing

  • Core skills that a new executive level manager or board director need, such as an understanding of strategic thinking, governance and financial literacy i.e. what they know and
  • The Emotional Intelligence of the participant i.e. who they are.
  • The aspirational intentions of these women through their exposure to and contact with other New Zealand Women who have already achieved a great deal in their careers.

What makes this programme different to others?

  • Mentoring will be offered from members of New Zealand Global Women, which will include access to women based overseas, to add a more “global” outlook
  • Our programme addresses what the market told us it needed - for women to grow as leaders operating in a global environment
  • It is based on theories of leadership and will aim to develop the “whole” woman
  • Content is strongly practical
  • It runs over 12 months, combining workshops, executive coaching and mentoring, so that change is tailored to each individual and can happen slowly and naturally
  • A small group of women will work and learn together over a 12 month period and they will create a strong peer network which will provide ongoing support
  • Some of the content providers have been identified particularly because of their overseas experience and more outward looking focus
